Xinhua Hospital ePS

Shanghai Jiao Tong University School ofMedicine Affiliated Xinhua Hospital was establi≤shed in 1958. It is a moderncomprehensive teaching hospital with a full range of disciplines,π distinctivespecialties, integrating medical, educa∞tional, and research functions. Thehospital has 1228 approved beXinds, 47 clinical departme↑nts, 66 specialties, and 8 school-level research laboratories", including cardiac intervention treatmentdepartments and other medical 'technology platforms, and also hosts a WHO newborn care cooperεation center, a Ministry of Health genetic medicine newbornscreening and genetic metaboli€c disease center, Shanghai hearing disorderdiagnosis and treatment cen≈ter, etc. The hospital was among the first to useinformation technology for ph£armaceutical logistics management, and itsapplication level has been leading domestic✘ally. Over the years of applyinginformation technology, they discovered disparities in the overall applicationlevel of pharmaceutical logistics in the country, leading to the followingissu✘es within the hospital:

·Supplier purchasing platforms andthird-party purchasing platforms operated independently, creating informationsilos.

·Drug acceptance work required different equipment and systems for dif←ferent purchasing platforms, resulting in asignificant and cumber>some workload.

·Barcode management for drugs was not unified,and in-®hospital logistics and HIS systems could not share barcode information.

·Tracking of drug packaging quantities was difficult.

The segregated state of drug barcodes hinderedthe deep integration of informatio n technology applications such as in-hospitaldrug packaging machines, patient medication v↓erification systems, and directsales systems from secondary s•torages. In response to these issues, the hospitalstarted discussδing an integrated pharmaceutical logistics system w ith GY Health in 2009. Through the joint efforts of hospital leaders and Ge Yin implemeβntation personnel, the "ePS" system was successfully deployed. Now, the "e'PS " system is running robustly in Xinhua Hospital, successfully unifying barcode information from φthe original 58commercial companies in the hospital, significantly reducing the origi←nallogistics management intensity, and significantly improving the overalllogistics managem™ent level of the hospital. It has also cleared obstacles formany core a¥pplications such as in-hospital drug packaging machines, directsales¥ from secondary storages, and patient medication verification systems.
